Why do the sanding pads no longer stick to the bottom of my sander?

If the sanding paper is attached to the sander with Velcro pads, then these may have become damaged. These can become damaged when holes appear in the paper and you continue sanding.

If the paper is secured by clips then the springs may need replacing.
