    Detent pin and hog ring are two types of anvils that hold sockets on impact drivers. A detent pin anvil has a retaining pin that must be pressed in to release a socket. A hog ring anvil has a ring that exerts pressure on the socket and can be removed without tools. Detent pin is suitable for users who drive the same sized nuts or bolts in an elevated position. Hog ring is suitable for users who switch sockets frequently and need versatility.
