In some instances you may notice that the DCE040 Connector will not be scannable by Site Manager when the 20V battery is removed from the tool. This issue is due to the internal coin cell of the connector having too low of a charge to broadcast its Bluetooth signal. Unlike Tool Connect™ tools and Tags, the Connector has a rechargeable coin cell that needs to be charged to broadcast its Bluetooth signal. The coin cell is charged whenever you insert a 20V battery onto the Connector, so everyday use of the tool with a battery will recharge the Connector as you work.
If you find that a tool with a Connector attached is not being detected when you perform a Bluetooth audit it is mostly likely due to the coin cell needing to be recharged. When the coin cell is fully charged the connector will continue to broadcast its Bluetooth signal for about 45 days without a battery attached to it. If you observe a connector with its blue LED on this is a warning that the coin cell is low and needs to be recharged.
Fully recharging the coin cell can take a couple of days, but overnight is usually adequate for most uses. If have just received new DCE040 Connectors or you are preparing for a deployment we suggest that you attach them to 20V batteries for a couple of days to allow the coin cell to recharge.
