The cells used in our POWERSTACK batteries are lithium-ion chemistry in a pouch cell format. They are high-grade cells are designed specifically for use with power tools. From an electro-mechanical perspective these cells are similar to the cylindrical cells we use today. Although superficially similar – they are fundamentally different from lithium-polymer cells used on consumer electronics.
The POWERSTACK battery offers improved thermal performance and can maintain higher voltages under load than a cylindrical cell battery, which mean that this battery technology can perform better and last longer than a comparable compact cylindrical cell battery. There are three levels of battery protection in a tool used with a POWERSTACK battery:
i) The tool module continually monitors a range of different readings from the battery
ii) The circuit board on the POWERSTACK battery provides additional layers of electronic protection
iii) The fuse on the battery is a fail-safe to prevent the circuit overloading, it has been specifically designed and tested for this battery As with any DEWALT product our POWERSTACK batteries pass a wide range of safety tests and undergo stringent quality control.
