Bit stuck in extension bit holder

I currently have a bit stuck in a magnetic extension bit holder. I've tried everything from vise to pliers and the bit won't budge. I know about the retention ring but how do I get the bit unstuck?

  Return it or through it out and never by anything DeWALT, again.

  That's my plan forward.

  I had to use a vise grip on each end and twist and pull.  Then was able to get the ring out for future use.  Cool design Dewalt!!
