New air compressor leaking air

Recently picked up a 'DEWALT 2.5 Gal. Portable Electric Heavy Duty 200 PSI Quiet Air Compressor' along with a pulley hose and accessory kit
Am having an issue where every time I start it up, it compressors the air as it should, but when finishes, the air leaks from the connection point and from the handle itself, it continues to leak for a few minutes until the machine then starts back up to recompress air again, it continues this perpetually
This isn't how it's meant to be right? it's supposed to compress the air and hold it until use? it just leaks all the air out within 5 minutes until there's barely any pressure from the handle. I originally had the same model air compressor, just a few years older, and it had this same issue, I bought a new one thinking it would work properly but am getting the same problem.
Is this just a matter of sealing the connection points with some kind of thread sealer, or is this just how they're actually meant to function? I initially tried using the Dewalt support, but they were only able to copy and waste warranty information.

The fast way is to seal that, I use Teflon tape, it is not the right solution, but works.
