    Based on the date code you provided, possibly the type of your drill could be “Type 1” because the Type 1 are the oldest ones, but we can not guarantee that. Taking into account that the type info on the specs label is scraped off, we don't have any other way to confirm wheter is Type 1 or Type 2. That's the only way.

    In this case, we would suggest checking this with a trained Service Center technician that can confirm the Type on your drill. Please have the nearest DEWALT service center to evaluate your tool to determine the best course of action to correct this issue.     Thanks. Unfortunately any Dewalt  “authorized” service center is too far away from me. I had hoped that providing the original part number etched on the original armature would have been a solid identifier. I’m old school and I can remember talking directly to a manufacturer’s tech, giving them an original part number, and the getting a response, “Oh yeah, that part was used in “xyz” model”. Your information though has provided me a good lead. Thank you for your quick response.
