When deploying a Gateway there are a couple of factors you should take into account when figuring out where it should be positioned.

Location

Consider where you will be storing/using your connected assets. You will want to position your Gateway in an area where there will be a high concentration of assets, this could include tool cribs, job boxes, storage containers, vehicles, etc.

Power

Depending on the frequency that you have selected for the Gateway to scan consider having a power source available if you are scanning more than twice a day. In a vehicle setting consider providing power to the Gateway through the vehicle.

Cellular Service and GPS

Your Gateway cannot report its scans of tools unless it has cellphone coverage. A good way to test this is use your own cellular phone, if you cannot connect then the Gateway probably won’t be able to connect either. For the best location accuracy using GPS the Gateway should be placed where it has a clear view of the sky and the DEWALT label should be facing the sky as shown below.

Mounting

When mounting the Gateway consider ways to reduce the chance of the unit getting wet and being exposed to debris and dust. If you are encasing the Gateway do not fully encase it in metal to allow the device to scan for assets and connect to the cellular network. Consider mounting options that reduce the chance of damage from falling objects. If you are connecting the Gateway to power, provide protection for the USB cable and charger.
